Overview

Position Summary

 
The Service Shop Foreman is responsible for supervising daily operations in the Service Department while actively performing diagnostic and repair work. This role provides technical leadership to technicians, ensures adherence to OEM repair standards, and supports efficient workflow throughout the shop. The ideal candidate is a skilled master technician with strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving abilities who can balance hands-on work with team oversight.

Responsibilities and Qualifications

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and support the service technician team while performing advanced diagnostics and repairs.
  • Oversee daily shop workflow, ensuring proper job dispatching, technician productivity, and on time repair completion. 
  • Provide technical guidance, troubleshooting support, and quality control checks for all repair work. 
  • Ensure all repairs meet OEM standards, warranty guidelines, and dealership policies.
  • Assist the Service Manager with assigning work, managing shop capacity, and supporting operational planning.
  • Train, mentor, and coach technicians to support skill development and performance improvement.
  • Review repair orders for accuracy, proper documentation, and completion prior to closing.
  • Support communication between technicians and service advisors to clarify repair needs and timelines.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized shop environment in accordance with OEM and dealership safety requirements. 
  • Assist in diagnosing complex or escalated technical issues and ensure timely resolution. 
  • Monitor and manage shop tools, equipment, and resources to ensure availability and proper use. 
  • All other duties as assigned by leadership.


Qualifications 

  • Certified automotive technician with extensive hands-on experience; OEM master or journeyman certification preferred.
  • Strong diagnostic and mechanical repair skills with in-depth knowledge of OEM procedures.
  • Previous experience in a leadership, foreman, or team lead role within an automotive dealership is an asset. 
  • Excellent communication and coaching skills with the ability to support and motivate a team.
  • Strong organizational abilities with the capacity to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with dealership management systems (DMS) and OEM diagnostic software. 
  • High attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record required. 
  • Additional technical training or certifications are considered an asset.
